ABOUT BAYYINAH

I am a communications professional with over 25 years of experience in Radio broadcasting and promotional marketing. My experience includes having worked in Programming, Public Affairs, Production, Marketing and Promotions for stations here in the US and abroad in the United Arab Emirates. Overseas, I hold the title as the first and to date, the only African American Woman in UAE broadcasting history. I’ve made a lasting contribution to the broadcast industry by instructing student broadcasters at NC A&T State University and training up and coming media professionals in the UAE, some of whom have gone on to be the industry's top leaders both in the US and abroad.   

In my last years in the Emirates, I was co-owner of the AMIR Group Ltd. International Consulting firm, a US corporation. I volunteered doing PR for Democrats Abroad, the UAE Country Committee. After living 17 years abroad in Abu Dhabi and having the wonderful experience of traveling all over the world, I finally returned home to the US to be closer to my family.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

I’d like to mention a word or two about my professional experience in the UAE; I have had the distinct pleasure, unexpected break, and fortuitous opportunity to have been an integral part of the UAE broadcasting industry at a time when it was just blossoming into reality. Every major brand in the world wanted to get in the door, and to do that, they were brought to me. A brand-new market is like a blank blackboard, full of possibilities. Imagine your roller skates outfitted with rockets – that is what it was like. I was in the unique position of bringing a beautiful desert community into the super-sonic age, with limitless funds and resources and being that go-to person with knowledge of “how we do it in States.” It was like being given the keys to the city and told: “Go, open the doors!” Truly, one of those phenomenal experiences of being in the right place at the right time. I will forever be grateful to the Power That Is!
